Power showers & Bar/Mixer showers AND PUMPS should have isolation valves already fitted just before connections to the shower - The reason there should be isolation valves is to allow replacement of your old shower without the need to drain down the cold water tank .

We charge £99 for the extra time taken emptying the water tank, fitting full bore lever isolation valves, re filling the system...  if it is discovered when we arrive that no isolation valves have previously been fitted. If your original shower was fitted by a professional then there will be isolation valves already in place.

We will not try to turn off water supplies using gate valves as they are probably seized or they will leak after closing them which will mean draining down the system to replace unless you are prepared to pay for draining down and replacing with full bore isolation valves if they do leak or seized. We will not accept any call backs for leaking gate valves after we have left if you declined the option of full bore isolation valves being fitted when we fitted your new shower.

Gate valves or central heating valves are designed to regulate the low pressure flow in central heating systems not to isolate mains water pressure or to turn off water completely therefore they tend to seize up after a while and cannot be trusted to operate correctly when the handle is turned 9 times out of 10 leaving drips. So our advice never turn a gate valve it will more than likely open up a world of hurt !
