Best Electric Shower - Mira Or Triton ?
Always debatable which brand is the best in terms of:
Reliability
Cost
Performance
Ease of fitment
Well I have been replacing and installing electric showers exclusively for the last 11 years and learnt to understand the differences between the 2 major brands... Mira and Triton. Both manufacture these showers in the midlands UK. Both have been around since the mid 70'sSo let's start with reliability
Has previously stated I have been replacing and installing electric showers for the last 11 years and I base my thoughts on showers working first time from the box without faults and any call backs after fitment.
I am comparing Tritons T80E and Mira's Sprint/ Jump for this exercise.
The Triton T80 looks quite modern with a lot of chrome embellishments plus the addition of quite a good multi spray shower head. Performance is good. Downside with these are the very short riser rail with a delicate plastic inserts that crack easily if you overdo tightening the rail at the wall, they also necessitate drilling more holes in the tiles. Another issue is the stop start button tends to stick in the on or off position - This usually occurs when the wall tiles are not completely flat. I would rate this shower as average
Mira Sprint looks quite plain with 2 chrome bezels and white shower head. The riser rail is long enough to cover old riser rail fixings without the need to drill more holes. There is no soap tray included which some customers prefer. Installation is pretty much straight forward however a new section of pipe will need bending and fitting in some instances. There have been very few issues with this shower, it has a solid stop start button that has been reliable. The shower head is a good quality unit also the hose seems more substantive than the Triton. I would rate this shower good.
Cost.
Both the Triton & Mira are about the same cost depending who has them on sale.
Performance.
The Triton seems to give better performance over the Mira but only just. However we have had far more issues with Tritons over the years namely sticky buttons and the length of service. We have by far returning customers after only a few years who have previously had Tritons over Mira.
Ease of fitment.
The Triton T80 is a three piece affair that is awkward and fiddly to fit and must be fitted to a completely flat surface or expect trouble getting the three poor quality plastic pieces to fit correctly and the on off switch sticking. I rate this average.
The Mira has simple robust two piece affair with a large front cover and a sturdy on off switch. I rate this good.
If you can look past the blandness of the Mira I would choose this over the Triton any day of the week !
As far as other models from Mira and Triton are concerned I find Triton's range of showers look how can I say it kindly... boring and some look downright odd and not in the same league has Mira models. Mira's Sport, Azora, Galena and Decor look and feel more classy and age very well. The Dual head models not only look good but give an exceptional showering experience.
In conclusion I cannot remember any Triton that stood out except one, I have fitted various models and was only impressed with Triton's Aspirante but unfortunately I found these tended not to last very long with customers complaining with temperature issues. So I would not recommend because these are at the more expensive end of Tritons range and would expect a longer life without issues.
I am not a Mira fanboy... I am judging on what I fit, after all it makes no difference to me what model you choose, I still earn my living, however it does make a difference to me that you are happy with our service and make the right decision based on my 11 years fitting experience.
What about other brands ?
Well they seem to come and go - then re-appear under another name so I would not offer these brands due to parts availability or the manufacturer sticking around long enough to honor any potential warranty claims
